For aesthetic reasons late-game, it's nice to not have remnants of old mining outposts. These blueprints drain a resource patch as fast as possible, destroying the ore.
For small areas (<=5x5), the alternate [item=electric-mining-drill] version is faster than [item=big-mining-drill], though it doesn't work for tungsten ore.
