Modular Rail Infrastructure Notebook
These are a set of Chunk-Alligned blueprints I put together in order to speed up the process of laying down railroad over long distance or in a specific way, while still making it look organized. All of these designs are based on a two-rail, right-hand-drive setup. They are not perfect, may have inefficient pathing, and will probably be a bit confusing at first, so I've organized them by number of rail connections and their function. Please note that these are only infrastructure tracks, and do not include stops and stations, only the space for you to add them yourselves.
Rails included as follows: 1 Nub, 7 I-Tracks, 10 L-Tracks, 28 T-Tracks, 12 X-Tracks. They will be named Nubs, Railways, Corners, Junctions, and Rail Hubs, respectively. All tracks will have big electric poles in their center and on every chunk-alligned corner, to assist with their placement and help carry power over the tracks.
Rail Types
Tracks that are labeled Omega will have full roundabouts, and only straight interior rails. This is one of the more stable designs for allowing multiple trains through an area, as the paths in the space are minimal.
Tracks that are labeled Radial will have full roundabouts, but no interior rails. These provide a good space for putting small contraptions, such as a turret along the tracks to protect trains or seal off areas.
Tracks that are labeled Structural will have no roundabout, and instead connect directly to their destination in a short route. These type of tracks are harder to make compact path systems for, so unless you manually edit the pathing, trains will prefer to only cross more intricate tracks when no others are passing through.
Tracks that are labeled Hybrid will share features from both radial and structural design, meaning that there will be direct paths as well as a roundabout for turning around.
Tracks that are labeled Wide will have partial roundabouts, opening up a small area akin to radial tracks, without allowing trains to turn around in them.
Special Tracks
Funnel tracks will allow entrance from any side of the track, but will only allow exiting in specific directions. The input and output sides are easily distinguishable because the input sides don't have double tracks. These kind of tracks are useful for converging trains together and sending them in a specific direction.
Loop tracks have unique roles. Sides of the track will either be active or inactive, so to speak. Active sides will connect to all other sides of the track. Inactive tracks will not connect to each other. These are relatively advanced tracks with extra control in mind for more intricate networks. Proper use of these tracks may increase the time it takes to reach a destination, but will drastically reduce the frequency of traffic jamming in cluttered networks.
