Description
Ever wanted to know the exact volume of railway traffic passing by a section of track? Do you suspect one rail line is more favored than another? Well, wonder no more! With Train Railway Traffic Volume Counter Turnstile and Display with Expansion Digits, you too, can automate the counting of railway traffic without having to sit Right of Way side and click your little hand held counter.
The Blueprint String Book includes:
- A Basic Core Logic blueprint with Two Digits (Good to 99 Trains),
- Expansion Digit blueprint. Just in case you need to count higher than 99. Expandable as high as Factorio can count. Which is a 32-bit signed integer or 2,147,483,647 (2^31 − 1). So if you find you need to count more than 2.1 billion train passings you're screwed.
- Example Blueprint for RoW Left tracks
- Example Blueprint for RoW Right tracks
- Example Blueprint for counting two tracks, separately, running parallel to one another
Things to keep in mind:
- Two signals (Rail Signal and/or Railway Chain Signal) must be installed, less than your shortest train length away, from one another. One on the correct side of the tracks. One on the wrong side. Best practice is to make these less than the length of a single locomotive apart. So it'll count your personal train if you roll without a freight car(s).
- A train is counted when both signals turn red at the same time. So if you're having trouble with phantom trains getting counted it's because you've set up your signals or chain signals in such a way that they both turn red when a trains not there. Usually you can fix this by installing another Rail Signal just up the way on the wrong side of the tracks.
- Those two Railway Signals need to be Green Data Wired to the Medium Pole Pole in the Upper Right of the blueprint for the counter to work.
- The expansion digits have, what seems to be, an extra light in the upper right hand position. That's not extra. That single light is intended to blueprint overlap on the digit it's pasted next to. This allows the data wires to automatically hook up and feed each other the correct information. Otherwise you'll get all zeros.
- If you find your trains flip the counter back to 0 (e.g. ...997--->998--->999--->000), and think you've lost the count; you haven't. The data still there as long as you haven't messed with the deciders and combinators on the rightmost side of the blueprint. Just add an extra digit to increase the number of places and you should see a correct count.
Happy counting. You're running low on Iron Plate.
