- The robots once constructed are placed into a filtered storage chest, then put into a roboport to be used in your network.
- The inserters taking bots out of the robot assemblers are programmed to keep putting robots from assemblers into the storage chests if there are no available bots of that type on the network. This is done by a simple wire from the inserter to a roboport. The roboports output signals X or Z for construction and logistics bot availability. If that signal equals 0 bots available, then the inserters will take more bots out of the assemblers and put them into the storage chest / roboport network. This way, you will only gain more robots in your network when there is a shortage of robots of that type (construction or logistics).
- The filtered storage chests will collect any construction or logistics bots that were deconstructed elsewhere. This can happen if you deconstruct a roboport with bots already stacked in it. Normally these bots will be lost in your storage chests until you take them out and put them back into a roboport to be used again in your network. So, this design does that automatically for you by telling any deconstructed bots to go into their appropriate filtered storage chest before any other chest. These deconstructed bots get reused and put right back into your network when needed, preventing new bots from being constructed in their place when not actually needed.
- A benefit of having this filtered storage chest system is that the logistics and construction robot assemblers will not produce extra robots when there is already enough in the network. The storage chests as a result help create less robots when the bots are not needed.
- Sometimes as robots fly by after completing their task, they will land in the nearest roboport. Because I am using these two roboports at the end of the bot factory in a specific way to introduce more bots to the network, I couldn't afford to have these specific roboports jam up with the wrong type of robot that just happens to land in it. So, I added filter inserters to take out the wrong kind of bot from these two roboports and put it back into the appropriate storage chest. This filter system should work for a long time in any map, but it is still possible that eventually it could jam up, just unlikely as it would take a long time or a massive flood of bots all at once landing there. If it did jam up, you would have to manually clear some of the bots from the wrong roboport there and the problem would be fixed.
