Note this is a 0.17 design. It won't work in 1.0 and later because the offshore pumps got changed. There is however an updated version available here.
It's a tileable 2x6 reactor cut in half to a 2x3 to be easier to handle (building a large 2x6 at once is quite the commitment). Main advantages of this approach is, that the 2x6 reactor has a very nice heatexchanger and turbine layout, which I can now utilize in this much smaller form factor.
Some notable design decision and features:
- No pump design (partly possible because of the compact heat exchanger setup)
- Water pumps located on the inside, to allow placement on shallow water bodies
- Full radar and roboport coverage
- Near perfect ratio
- A complex refueling mechanism featuring:
- No setup or kick start required, it just works
- 3 different states: 2 fuel inserted, 1 fuel inserted, no fuel inserted (this is done to avoid the short gap between refueling when using only two states)
- Either the entire reactor throttles/powers at once to preserve the neighbour bonus
It can happen, that more than the allowed fuel is inserted while building the reactor, this however is automatically corrected later, when the reactor starts throttling.
